Built in 1921, 235 Pyrmont originally served as a wool store. The building was one of many established in the area to support the wool industry centered around the port at Darling Harbour.
The advent of road freight in the 20th century led to a decline in the use of the ports and, therefore, industry in the precinct. By the early 1980s, the wool stores stood empty, and the ports fell into disrepair.
Pyrmont again transformed dramatically in the late 1980s with extensive redevelopment and gentrification of the precinct’s old stores. Darling Harbour also re-emerged as a vibrant exhibition, entertainment, and tourist precinct.
